These guys live in a post apocalyptic world that used to be much like ours, but is now riddled with magic and creatures. Humans experienced a great (near) extinction during magic's first introduction, leaving many cities and towns vacant, which is when objects came in and took their place, adopting their technology, language, and culture. They follow the same kind of societal structure that humans did aside from some differences, having currency, work, and some form of government.
Not all objects choose to live in the humans' past though, and many choose to live rurally instead. You'll usually see them living with other people, chilling in some farmhouse or wandering the plains (for them to be approached by a host and compete in a competition show hehe.) It's common to see them in groups because some may be pretty fragile and need each other to survive out there, as well as have someone there to witness someone die and be able to recover them. Others may spend most of their time out there but might have a place for themselves in urban areas to go back to and store their trinkets.

Objects have a high concentration of magic within them, it's what makes us sentient. We like to call the center of it either the heart, soul, or nucleus.
It's what keeps food from going bad, technology from losing its battery, and so on. Magic can also connect us to certain aspects of our object, so a glass of juice may feel nauseous when it's empty, or a phone's memories can be accessed through its hard drive.
Our magic is also unique to the individual due to its ability to hold a conscious, so I guess you could say it IS a soul. We call these magic IDs. They can be registered into a recovery center so it can recognize who's who.
When an object's magic is released into the air, it can then be picked up by a recovery center if their name/ID is typed in. Due to its relation to itself, it will stay intact despite it being free from its vessel. If an object is not recovered in a long time, they will eventually diffuse back into the air as regular magic.
Our faces and limbs are constructed by magic, same way a recovery center uses magic to reconstruct objects. The texture of our skin can vary based on the environment of our conception, so it can be rough, smooth, fuzzy, etc. I came to be in some crackhead's abandoned, water-damaged basement, so I'm a little scaly.
The color of our skin is usually just the main color of our object but darker, but uncommonly, it can be other colors, I guess.
We do have what could be considered blood, but that has more to do with magic than biology, I think. Same goes for bones, they are both constructed and puppeted by our magic.
A group you might see me draw a lot is Flowery, Coke, Mailbox, and Lollipop, which is a friend group who met through a competition. They're somewhat stupid, and I say somewhat because Coke still has at least two braincells. There are also other people in the competition too, some of which can be seen below. (though not all of them are contestants)
