Last night my friend messaged me saying that Justin Chapman (one of the writers of II) had mentioned Taco and OJ in a live stream that day so I watched the whole thing to see for myself!!!
(im not gonna be talking about the au, just about tacojay as a duo/ship/their interactions)
AAAHHHHHH JUMPING OFF THE WALLS MY FAVES MENTIONED MY FAVES MENTIONED MY FAVES MENTIONED!!!!!!!!!!! I find it SOOOO funny that Justin thinks of them as exes LOL. And like they said, they definitely would have that vibe since they haven't even spoken to or even mentioned each other since season 1, and they've grown a lot and had their arcs since then. I feel they would have a mutual understanding of that at least, nod to each other in public kind of chill.
If you think about it, their arcs are kind of parallel to each other. OJ dealt with ego issues with his hotel and all, prioritizing it over everyone else, like in episode 8 when he made all the contestants clean his hotel while Mephone was gone, and undeservingly temporarily eliminated Suitcase from a random pick just so they could move on and do the "challenge." In episode 16, Paper finally made him realize how big his ego had gotten, even if he only really thought about it while he was dead, since he did die literally right after. Meanwhile, Taco still couldn't let go of the prize, doing whatever unethical means necessary to get it, but Microphone reality checked her in episode 14 by comparing their relationship to her past relationship with Pickle in season 1, and how they had kind of gone through the same ordeal. Which then made Taco realize the monster she's become and tried to convince the contestants to leave the game as well the very next episode (after season 3). Both had undergone major character development since the first season, and if they ever interacted again, it'd be like they're two completely different people at that point.
I hope they interact with each other again in the future, now that it was announced II would continue this year. I think they definitely do deserve that. I looked through every episode after season 1 where both Taco and OJ were in at least once (which wasn't a lot), and found that the ONLY time they were even on the same FRAME at the same time was literally the LAST EPISODE. So I'm really glad we got those few crumbs of that duo in the live stream since I find they're pretty underrated, at least compared to others. I've also been kinda interested in menu squad in general (Taco, Pickle, OJ, and Paper), so I might talk about them at some point.
