1/6/25 i should write more letters
This morning, I watched this video on youtube about why you should write letters, and it reminded me of a hobby I have. Well, I'm not sure if I've done it enough times for it to be considered a hobby, but I really want it to be because I want to do it more often. I have a couple online friends I've written to before through bracelet and art trading. Basically what we do is ask what our favorite characters are, make stuff related to them (bracelets, drawings, perler art), and then send them to each other in a package, usually including a letter. It's honestly one of the coolest things I've done before in my opinion. There's just something so surreal about interacting with someone in the physical world after originally meeting them online, even if it's just through the mail. I'm a traditional artist most of the time, as I spend a lot of time drawing on a sketchbook I bring to school. I looooove to make little doodles and drawings for my friends, and a lot of times I wish I can share the same things with my online friends. This is why I love the mail system sooooo much, you can connect with people from so far in a way you usually wouldn't do so with someone you know online. Recieving art or writing from someone outside of the webspace makes the exchange between us sooooo much more meaningful than just sending a quick text or meme; knowing they put the time and effort to create something specifically for you and sending it in a cute decorated letter is really heartwarming, and doing the same for them is actually so fun too. I swear I could talk on and on about this but I feel like I should do rather than just say. If you're reading this and we know each other, (friends, mutuals), don't be afraid to message me and ask if we could write to each other! I have a million stickers with nowhere to put them, so I'd be happy to send a few lol.
To be honest, I feel like I'm talking to a wall here. I've sent this site to a lot of friends, but I dont want to annoy them about it every time I put something new on it. All my friends (atleast that I know) don't really use computers, and this isn't exactly the most mobile-friendly website. But I do hope that at least one of them checks in on it every so often to see how I'm doing. This site is basically a window to my brain, a world of my creation, and every little thing on it I put there with intent. This website is for me, yeah, but it's also for all my friends and the people I know. Like writing letters, coding is another tool for creativity. And creativity can be used to create special things for yourself, and others.
